Chapître d'Expédition d'Automne - Wheatleigh - Sunday September 20th

Wheatleigh

Gastronomic Heaven

The “Cottages” of the Berkshires along with similar grand estates in Bar Harbor and Newport were built during America’s “Gilded Age”. Wheatleigh, based upon a 16th century Florentine Palazzo, designed by Peabody and Sterns with landscape by Olmstead in 1893 for railroad and banking tycoon Henry B. Cook is a perfect example of this sort of “modest” vacation property. These days, as an exquisite Relais & Chateau, 5 Diamond and 5 Star rated 19-room hotel in close proximity to the Boston Symphony’s summer home at Tanglewood, Wheatleigh epitmozes elegance and features a dining room hailed as one of the finest in the northeast.

Thus on a beautiful sunny afternoon at the confluence of the Boston and Albany Bailliages a select group of our respective members gathered for an end of summer/start of autumn Chapître in grand style – a magnificent formal dining experience.  To eat is to live but to dine is sublime and our evening was indeed sublime starting with Champagne and hors d’oeuvres indoors and out prior to dining in the exquisite Portico Room with it’s glass walled, sweeping views of the Berkshire hills across Western Massachusetts. Chef Jeffrey Thompson’s culinary artistry coupled with table service of the highest order directed by General Manager Marc Wilhelm composed an evening of gastronomy without compare. Throughout the evening good cheer and the camaraderie of the table amongst our two Bailliages was in full force and once the Plate Presentation and dessert were complete a final digestive was enjoyed prior to retiring to blissful sleep in this elegant guest room suites.

Vive la Chaîne!!
